Escape from the Dungeon

A new animation! I started this back in June for the Industry Insights booth at Texas Production Expo before taking a break to focus on Art Fight. Then with my last semester coming around, I brought it back for my portfolio class with the goal to finish!

The goal of this animation was to practice body mechanics and get used to animating a character while keeping a more dynamic camera in mind. A lot of movies and games move the camera during their shots, after all, so I can't rely on static angles forever. It also served as a good opportunity to try out MASH for building the tiled floor procedurally. I've still got a ton to figure out there, but I think it was sufficient for this particular task.

This project was animated using GameAnim's Azri rig. https://www.gameanim.com/product/azri-rig/
My reference comes from a clip in this Game Lab video about the parkour in Mirror's Edge, namely from 15:03--10:13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snjhDUQktMs
Finally, I implemented the Spider-Verse effect by using Ehsan Bayat's Twosify, a Maya tool for non-destructively setting up keyframes and camera parenting. https://ehsanbayat.gumroad.com/l/TwosifyAnimation
This project was animated using Maya's student license.

A daring escape from the final leg of the dungeon!

The final environment. Blocky and basic, but with enough visual interest to support the action. Fun fact, that shadow isn't lighting, it's a texture!
